Ontario Graduate Scholarship

Value: $5,000 per term for 3 terms

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Award (SSHRC)

Value: $17,500 for one year (CGS Master’s); $20,000 per year for 12, 24, 36, or 48 months (Doctoral Fellowship); $35,000 per year for 36 months (CGS Doctoral Scholarship)

J.H. Stewart Reid Memorial Fellowship Trust

Sara Marie Jones Memorial Scholarship in English

Value: $500

The Carl F. and Margaret E. Klinck Prize

Value: $2000
Deadline: April
More information: Awarded for outstanding work in a thesis in the field of Canadian literature; nominees must be in the fourth year of their PhD or beyond. Please see the Departmental Awards page for more details.

The McIntosh Prize

Value: Up to $900
Deadline: May
More information: Awarded for the best public lecture given by a fourth-year doctoral student on a topic growing out of his or her thesis. Please see the Departmental Awards page for details.

SOGS Awards and Subsidies

125th Anniversary Scholarship

Value: $1250
Deadline: April
More information: Two scholarships are available for Master’s students and two for PhD students; applicants will be judged based on academic performance as well as contribution to the academic community. See the scholarship webpage for details.

Peggy Collins Memorial Award

Value: $1000, depending on funds available
Deadline: October
More information: Awarded to a part-time graduate student; preference will be given to individuals who are in the workforce full-time; have family commitments; and are involved in the community at Western or the community at large. Please see the SOGS website for details.

Graduate Student Teaching Awards

Value: $500
Deadline: December (Fall half-course) and April (Winter half-course; full course)

SOGS Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund Bursary

Value: $1000

SOGS Joint Fund for Graduate Student Research Scholarship

Value: $300 – $500
Deadline: One month prior to the event or activity to be funded

SOGS Child Care Subsidy

Value: $250 per semester
Deadline: The last business day of each term
More information: These limited subsidies are intended to offset the costs of child care services and are awarded based on financial need. Please see the SOGS website for details.

SOGS Travel Subsidy

Value: $400
Deadline: The last business day of each term

Mary Routledge Fellowship

Value: Variable
