Department of English Steward Solidarity Social

2712776_mainPSACLogoWhat’s that you say about free pizza and beer?

Did you know that socializing over food and adult beverages is one of the foundations of the labour movement that has brought us benefits, equity practices, workplace health and safety protection, and the eight-hour workday? That’s right! Do you think collective organizations of working folks campaigning for better working conditions would have even been possible had it not been for pubs, bars, house parties, and meetings with snacks? Unthinkable!

In the interest of carrying on the long and illustrious tradition of chatting about our work woes, suggestions, and solutions to problems that affect us all over a pint and a slice, PSAC 610 would like to invite you to the Department of English Steward Solidarity Social.

A casual and collegial afternoon event organized by your friendly neighbourhood departmental stewards and sponsored by the PSAC, the Social is a chance for graduate teaching assistants in the Department of English to get together for some free food and drinks and chat about what it’s like to be a TA in the Department of English. Share questions, concerns, and suggestions with your colleagues, departmental stewards, and chief steward over pizza and appetizer, and fill out a short survey to receive drink tickets!

This event is open to all graduate teaching assistants in the Department of English, although if you’ve been a TA in the last year and are still a graduate student in the Department, you are more than welcome to attend, as well. Every effort has been made to include vegan and vegetarian options. If you have any questions about the Social, please feel free to contact Diana at

About uwoges

The Graduate English Society (GES) at Western University is a student organization that, through its various events and services, fosters a sense of social as well as academic community among the English graduate students currently in attendance at Western. We also facilitate communication between graduate students and faculty in an effort to promote intradepartmental camaraderie and to present graduate student concerns to the administration. All students in the graduate program in English at Western are members of the GES. Through the GES, students can voice and address matters common to the graduate student body. We hold meetings approximately once or twice a semester which are open to all members. We also elect members to various GES Service Positions where they represent student interests. In addition, the GES serves both professional and social purposes, sponsoring academic events and parties.
